Privacy Notice
Last updated: 31 July 2026
This notice explains what personal data URL Hawk collects, why we collect it, how long we keep it, and the rights you have over it. The short version: we collect the minimum needed to run a link shortener, we do not sell data, and we do not build advertising profiles.
Who we are
URL Hawk operates the link shortening service at urlhawk.im. For data protection purposes, URL Hawk is the controller of the data described in this notice. You can reach us at hello@urlhawk.im.
Data we collect when you create a link
Anonymous link creation does not require a name, email address, or any other identity information.
- The destination URL you shorten.
- The slug or custom alias of the short link.
- The date and time the link was created.
- A running total of clicks on the link.
Data we collect when you click a short link
When you visit a short link we process the request data needed to perform the redirect, and we increment the link's click counter. Standard web server logs may record your IP address, browser type, and the time of the request for security and reliability purposes.
Server logs are kept for a short rolling window and are not used to profile visitors.
Data we collect when accounts launch
- Your email address and password hash, used to sign you in.
- Optionally your name, if you provide it.
- The links associated with your account.
- Billing details for paid plan subscribers, handled by our payment provider. We never store full card numbers.
How we use your data
We do not sell personal data, and we do not share it with advertisers.
- To run the service: storing links and redirecting visitors.
- To keep the service safe: detecting abuse, spam, and malicious links.
- To provide support when you email us.
- To bill paid plan subscribers and send receipts.
Legal bases
Where UK and EU data protection law applies, we rely on performance of a contract for running the service you asked for, legitimate interests for abuse prevention and service security, and consent where the law requires it, for example for any non-essential cookies.
Sharing
We share data only with service providers who help us run URL Hawk, such as hosting and payment processing, under contracts that limit what they can do with it. We may disclose data if required by law or to protect the service and its users from abuse.
Retention
Link records are kept for as long as the link exists, which is indefinitely by default because short links are meant to keep working. Server logs are kept for a short rolling window. Account data is kept while your account is open and deleted when you delete your account.
Your rights
To exercise any of these rights, email hello@urlhawk.im. We respond within one month.
- Access the personal data we hold about you.
- Correct inaccurate data.
- Ask for deletion of your data.
- Object to or restrict certain processing.
- Data portability where it applies.
- Complain to your data protection authority, in the UK the ICO.
International transfers
If data is processed outside the UK or EEA by a service provider, we make sure appropriate safeguards are in place, such as adequacy decisions or standard contractual clauses.
Changes to this notice
We may update this notice as the service evolves, for example when accounts and analytics launch. The date at the top shows the latest revision and material changes will be highlighted on the site.
